Report on Cognitive Architectures

چکیده
This paper discusses our views on the future of the field of cognitive architectures, and how the scientific questions that define it should be addressed. We also report on a set of requirements, and a related architecture design, that we are currently investigating as part of the CoSy project. An Architecture Schema for Embodied Cognitive Systems Nick Hawes, Jeremy Wyatt and Aaron Sloman For future submission. Abstract. This paper presents an architecture schema which inherits some of the ambitions of classic cognitive architectures (such as modelling and understanding information flow and control), and of robot control architectures (such as producing robust, reliable behaviour in the real world). An architecture schema is a task and implementation independent set of rules for structuring processing components and information, and controlling information flow, which can be instantiated to create designs specific to a particular set of tasks or scenarios. The design of the schema is based on requirements produced from the analysis of a limited set of CoSy-related scenarios, and the functionality provided to instantiations of the schema is therefore limited to that which is required for these scenarios. Consciosusness in Cognitive Architectures
This report analyses the aplicability of the principles of consciousness developed in the ICEA project to three of the most relevant cognitive architectures. This is done in relation to their aplicability to build integrated control systems and studying their support for general mechanisms of real-time consciousness. To analyse these architectures the ASys Framework is employed. This is a conce...

Cognitive Architectures (CAs) are the core of artificial cognitive systems. A CA is supposed to specify the human brain at a level of abstraction suitable for explaining how it achieves the functions of the mind. Over the years a number of distinct CAs have been proposed by different authors and their limitations and potentials were investigated. These CAs are usually classified as symbolic and...

Systematic Integration of Cognitive and Robotic Architectures
Originally, progress towards the AI goal of building artificial agents with human-like intelligence was best seen in cognitive architecture research that focused on developing complete agents in a systematic, theory-driven way. Later, research in embodied AI and robotics turned away from this focus on higher-level cognition in favor of making robots robustly achieve simple tasks in the real wor...
